Frequently asked questions

What does Health Fit Pro cover?

It is a daily cash benefit, paid for every day you are admitted as an inpatient, calculated as a multiple of the daily medical benefit you select — for example 1× a day in a standard room and 4× a day in an ICU.

How does it differ from a lump-sum health plan?

A lump-sum health plan pays the actual treatment cost, while a daily benefit pays a fixed cash amount per day whatever the bill comes to. It works well as a top-up to replace lost income and cover extra expenses.

Can I buy it on its own?

No. It is a rider and must be bought with a main life policy, and the maximum daily benefit depends on your age and the sum insured of that policy.

Is the premium tax deductible?

The health insurance portion of the premium is deductible under Revenue Department rules. We recommend checking the current criteria before claiming.

How is "one admission" counted?

It means a single stay in hospital as an inpatient. Two or more stays for the same cause, illness or complications of the same illness count as one admission if each is no more than 90 days from the date of the last discharge.

What is an intensive care unit (ICU), and what does it pay?

It means a room set aside specifically for the treatment of critically ill patients (an intensive care inpatient room). For treatment in an ICU the daily benefit rises to four times the daily medical benefit, for up to 365 days (together with item 1, no more than 4× a day).

What does "day-case inpatient" mean?

It means inpatient treatment that does not require an overnight stay, as specified in the contract. The daily benefit of 1× a day still applies.

How is "inpatient surgery" defined?

It means surgery performed under general anaesthesia or spinal anaesthesia administered by an anaesthetist. The benefit is 15× (payable once per admission).

What is total permanent disability (TPD)?

It means disability continuing for at least 180 days such that you cannot perform any occupation for remuneration, or the loss of specified body parts — such as both eyes, both hands, both feet, or one hand and one foot. The benefit is 200×.

Which critical illnesses does this rider cover?

It covers the illnesses and severe conditions defined in the rider, such as carcinoma in situ and invasive cancer. The first diagnosis must be made while you are living. The details and the list of conditions are as stated in the policy.
